Karen Rachels, LMFT | Psychotherapy Consultation & Training

Practice Groups

I facilitate practice groups in the San Francisco Bay Area where we practice Somatic Attachment Therapy, a flexible somatically-focused method that integrates attachment, regulation, somatic skills and basic trauma completion.

In contrast with consultation groups, practice groups are specifically for working in “therapist”/“client” dyads to develop more skills, knowledge and self-awareness. I coach and support each “therapist” as they are working. Direct positive and “therapist’s growth edge” feedback are vital to group process. As in my consultation groups, I seek to provide safety and group cohesiveness as members learn.

Members of my practice groups have taken a substantial training in somatic work such as Hakomi, Sensorimotor Psychotherapy, Focusing, Somatic Experiencing, Formative Therapy, or have taken a Somatic Attachment Therapy 30-hour class with me. Reading of my workbook, Body, Brain, Love: A Therapist’s Workbook for Affect Regulation and Somatic Attachment is required. Members of practice groups must be in a clinical track.
